How do I join?
Visit the library and ask for a library card at the circulation desk. You'll need to bring two pieces of identification, one showing your current address - typically people show a driver's licence and a recent bill from BC Hydro or their phone company.
What does it cost?
If you live within Port Moody or in the community of one of the InterLINK member libraries, your library card is FREE.
Replacement cards cost $2.00 each. Just talk to a staff member at the circulation desk (check-out counter).
If you can show a valid library card from any other community in British Columbia, along with your ID, you can sign-up for a BC OneCard that is FREE.
If you live outside the InterLINK area, or you are not eligible for a BC OneCard, you will be charged a non-resident fee. If you are a visitor to Port Moody, you may opt to purchase a visitors card for a fee.
Non-Resident Membership Fee Schedule
Family Membership: $120.00 (annual fee)
Individual Membership: $40.00 (annual fee)
Visitor Membership: $40.00 (3 month fee; 50%refundable)
Who can join?
People of any age can have a library card. If you're under 13, however, your parent or guardian has to show their ID and sign the card, making them responsible for the materials you borrow.
How does your library card work?
You present it each time you borrow something from the library. It also provides you access to your library account, to the library Internet stations and to all our online information resources. Your card is your library I.D. so it's quite valuable - if it is lost, report the loss immediately to us. We'll cancel the old card and issue you a new one for a small fee. Changing address? Let us know so we can update your record.
Note: If you're having trouble logging into your online account, please bring your card to the library for staff to restore your access.
Are there any conditions on membership?
Yes, you're responsible for returning all materials and for paying all fines. If you're a parent or guardian, you're also responsible for the choice of and the return of all materials borrowed on your child's card - as well as any fines they may incur. We also ask that you abide by the policies of the library's Board of Trustees. New members receive a temporary card for the first 3 months, after which it needs to be re-activated.
How private is my record?
We can talk only to YOU about the activity on your card or, in some cases, your child's card. The information we collect on your account will be used only as allowed by law, such as to assess your eligibility for borrowing privileges, to contact you about reserve materials; or to recover overdue or lost materials or outstanding library fines. The library does not give out or sell membership lists to any outside body.
