General health reference

Health Reference Online
With your Port Moody Library card you can access our subscriptions to online health reference sources and medical journals.

BC Health Guide
Your family medical guide, this provides information on all kinds of diseases, conditions and symptoms, with treatment suggestions and when to call the doctor.

Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
Provides information and advice about occupational health and safety, including safety hazards and ergonomics, as well as the legislation in this area.

Canadian Health Network
CHN is a national, non-profit, bilingual web-based health information service to help Canadians find the information  on how to stay healthy and prevent disease.  Put together by Health Canada and other national and provincial/territorial non-profit organizations.

Healthfinder
Developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies, healthfinder® links to carefully selected information and web sites from over 1,800 health-related organizations.  Search for prevention & wellness, diseases & conditions, and alternative medicine — plus medical dictionaries, an encyclopedia, journals, and more.  Also search by age, gender, ethnic origin and others.

KidsHealth
This project of the Nemours Foundation has separate entrances for parents, teens, and kids.  For kids there are learning activities and games, for teens there are answers to all kinds of teenage questions, for parents there are articles on a variety of useful health topics.

Merck Manual - Home Edition
Online version of the well-known and well-respected Merck Manual, a standard medical encyclopedia, easily accessible for home users.

Medline Plus
A service of the US National Library of Medicine includes an extensive medical encyclopedia and dictionary, health news and other resources.

WholeHealthMD.com
American WholeHealth Networks' award-winning Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) education website. A team of leading consumer health writers and board-certified physicians provides the site with a wealth of practical information and self-help resources. Good information on natural supplements with suggestions for treating some conditions.

Health Canada's guide to healthy eating, which has been the cornerstone of nutrition education in Canada for nearly 50 years, and has been revised for use today.

Dietitians.ca
Website of useful nutritional information from the Dietitians of Canada. This web site is designed to help you check out your food choices, activity patterns, and body weight and provides personalized feedback.

Canadian web site devoted to sexuality education and information. Provides credible and reliable information on the topics from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) to contraception awareness, lifestyle choices to talking about sex.
